A Trio of Vintage Winter and Christmas Memories
X's & Oh's has charted artwork from three Canadian artists and presents them in Cross Stitch. Lovely designs that look like they came from the pages of old story books, I just love all three of them. They are pretty intense as far as the stitching and charts are concerned, so I will probably only enjoy them from these leaflets, and never the real stitched pieces! They are all solid stitching, so choose fabrics that are easy for YOU to work on... you might want to consider white for Here Comes Santa -- and leave the moon's inside empty.
Best Friends -- By Catherine Simpson, this measures approx 14 x 17-1/2 on 32ct and calls for 41 different DMC colors. Such a pretty scene, lots of backstitch detail. Not really Christmas -- you could leave off the decoration on the light post and shop window...
Here Comes Santa Claus -- By Frances Tyrell, Santa's sleigh up in the sky is only 10 x 15 stitches!!! Finishes approx 7 x 9 on 32ct, using 28 DMC colors.
The Postman -- By Shelley McVittie, I think The Mailman is picking up letters to Santa! (but maybe not... only the holly garland on the railing suggests Christmas.) 13-1/2 x 8-3/4 on 32ct, 35 DMCs, lots of shading in here, not much backstitch.
How Old? *How old would you be, if you didn't know how old you were?* I love this! It's appropriate for so many settings and people!!!!!
Offered as a leaflet, it finishes approx 8 x 10 on a 14/28ct and is coded for DMC or anchor floss. The model is worked on a very light blue -- so the whites in the shirts shows up. An uplifting lesson to life -- possibly for someone you know???
For the past 7 years, I have dearly loved this design... always looking at it at Market... never buying... because the pic on the leaflet cover doesn't do it justice. Well this year... X's and Oh's sent me home with its stitched model... along with 3 more scenes and their 2009 Calendar designs. I am enchanted!!!
Offered as a leaflet, Slicker Parade reminds me of the old Morton Salt ads when I was little. That charming row of little ones, blowing away in the wind, barely covered by colorful umbrellas! Presented in leaflet format, the piece finishes approx 7-1/2 x 20 on 32ct... and sad to say... it BEGS to be stitched on a navy blue fabric... that is so hard to see, regardless of the count! Tons of colors used, lots of blended needle combinations, this is not for the weak-of-stitcher! But... I love it anyway! Maybe we can find a little lighter fabric for you... So make sure to see the rest I brought home... such exquisite glimpses into days gone by...
When All The World Was Young
Another charming scene of children being children... this measures the same size as Slicker Parade -- 7-1/2 x 19 on 32ct. It, too, features the design style of spilling out of its borders with the design... it makes you look twice!
Charted for DMC flosses -- there are a ton of colors, and multiple skeins of some colors called for. VERY detailed backstitch instructions are included -- referenced by child number in the pic!
Another not-for-the-weak-of-stitcher... I love this one, too!
An afternoon park scene from the past... there is so much detail and so much happening in here... you can just imagine the crack of the softballs, the water gushing in the fountain, the dogs playing and the general commotion of the day!
Offered in chart format, this is another one that isn't for the beginner stitcher, as there are 8 pages of SOLID symbols, symbols, symbols and more symbols in there! (Actually, the charts are printed at only 8 stitches per inch, so it's very easy to follow)
Beautiful colors, lovely balance, I think you need to fake a little landscaping behind the houses... like taking that tree, reversing it, and placing it behind the yellow house. But if you happened to stitch this for me just the way it is... wow... I'd be thrilled!
And Sew On
Stuffed full of color and detail... these leaflets have 4 pages of solid symbols!!! Ladies at a quilting bee... the colors are vibrant, the detail is awesome!
Lots of DMC, LOTS of backstitching!
