Wooden Accessories, Gadgets and Frames
Wayne's Book Stand
Our Wood-Guy, Wayne, just lives to invent stuff!!! Here's his latest creation -- a little stand for your pattern, scissors, needles and threads! Made of oak, he's got the whole thing smooth and well balanced, I'd say it weighs about 12 ounces... maybe a pound. Measuring 8 inches long, 4 inches deep and 7 inches high... it has that back bar to hold up your pattern, and an angled slit in the base in which you can perch it.
If you have a small Snippet by Lizzie Kate or similar pattern, that slit will hold it open for you. The pegs are there for you to lasso your scissors over and loop threads. See the little micro-super-magnet embedded in base? That's for needles! Only thing it's missing is a recessed area for those M&Ms!!! (I bet we can get him to add that later on!!!) VERY handy little caddy!!!!!!!!
Lap Stitching Frames
Doodlin' Around has the coolest lap/table frames, very easy to use and gentle on the tabletop or the clothes on your lap! Offered in three different sizes, you have lots of options. Basically, they consist of two rounded end pieces, 4 round knobs, and sets of dowel rods with fabric belting on them -- ready for you to attach your stitching fabric. (There IS enough room on there to get that belting strip under the presser foot of a sewing machine.) See how it stands? There is nothing encumbering your hands on the back side. Great ergonomic shape, everything about these is smooth and very heavy-duty.
Pin Cushion Spool Holder from Olde Colonial
Oh... we've been waiting for Olde Colonial to start selling these.. it is a wooden stand that showcases a favorite finished pin cushion of yours! The pegs down below can store thread balls, tether scissors, corral your thread winders, hold a thimble, or offer a safe and handy place to prop your small bag of M & M's!!! So... basically, this can be a pretty display stand, or a functional little stitching station!
It measures 5 inches in diameter at the base. It stands 5 inches high, and the display platform for your treasure is 2-1/2 inches in diameter. Just the cutest thing... we perch all sorts of things on ours -- everything looks great displayed on top -- like a yummy cake under a glass dome cakeplate!
Round Tool Towers By Greg's Turn
Kind of like a Scissor Block -- only round! We have a new gadget that is designed to carefully hold your scissors, some needles, maybe a laying tool or seam ripper, and even a small ruler or chart. Wayne-The-Wood-Guy has a son, Greg. This is by *Greg's Turn.* It's Greg's turn to turn wood into cool gadgets for us like Wayne has for years!
This little guy measures approx 2-1/4 inches in diameter and stands 3-1/4 inches high. It features a felted bottom and 4 compartments, Two that are lined with felt in the bottoms that are about 2-1/4 inches deep. Store your scissors or rippers or laying tools in those holes. The bottom is soft and padded so tips are protected. The third, smaller hole has a magnet in the bottom -- that's for needles. The magnet keeps them in place in case your tower tips over. It is about 1-3/4 inches deep.
The slit is there for a small ruler or chart -- it is 3/4 of an inch deep. (I was absolutely NOT going to tell you that my mind sees a little face here! I see two eyes, a little nose and a mouth! But the little mouth is crooked because Greg has to make the slit in the direction of the wood grains so that they don't split! So I have all these little people looking at me, and they are so cute! Isn't that dumb?!) So, you have this little friend... all of them are different colors because they are made of different woods, and their little mouths are just every-which-way... and they are so FUNCTIONAL and HANDY! I wonder what they are saying....
Hand-Turned Wooden Stiletto and Ripper Combo
OH... sleek, smooth, sooooo wonderful feeling in your hands... these are hand-made wooden tools by Suffolk Shaker Shop. With an overall length of just over 5 inches, pull off one end to reveal a SUPER (deadly!) and sharp stiletto. Use it to help tease the holes in your canvas, control corners for finishing... just be careful with that end! The other end reveals a precise seam ripper. That comes in handy so often!
The wooden casing is beautifully made of either Mulberry (that's the deeper purple and blue-ish one), Raspberry (much pinker with gray wood highlights) and Cocobolo Rosewood (the more regular brown one.) Beautifully done, they feel substantial in your hand.
Divided Shaker Carriers
Oh what a charming carrier for your needlework treasures!!! Handmade by Suffolk Shaker Shop, this little guy measures approx 10-1/2 x 7 inches in an oval shape and features 2-inch high sides. It is divided inside -- you can see the carrying handle, and then the smaller divider in one of the two sides. Beautifully made -- smooth wood -- all the neat little copper nails -- just lovely!
Offered in natural wood, or several Antique Milkpaint colors! I've included a DMC number after the paint name to give you a pretty good idea of general color. (NOTE: The Milkpainted carriers have an uneven-dusty matte finish to them. If you want them a little more antiqued.... you'll need to rub with a colored furniture wax. If you simply want a more glossy finish, we suggest clear furniture wax -- Briwax is my favorite brand.)
Swiveling Acorn Needle Keep Case
An interesting little curiosity! This is a two-sided wooden acorn shape that is attached near the top with a peg that allows the acorns to swivel apart to reveal an acorn-shaped of felt inside to store needles.
It's pretty, and I think a little on the fragile side. It measures approx 1-3/4 x almost 2 inches in size, and hand-made by Wayne -- the Wood Guy from Images Stitchery!
Something Fun for a Sewing Case! Wooden What-Nots!
We have a pair of new trinkets I fell in love with when I saw them. Use them for Stitching Party favors, package ties, something functional in your stitching bag... something cute to display in a sewing case, or in the case of the acorn -- teathered to a pin cushion displaying left-over threads from a special piece you've just finished!
Wooden Flag Thread Board
Retromantics has send the coolest wooden thread board -- approx 5-1/2 x 3-1/2 inches in size. They have computer equipment that can etch designs into wood, so they made a distressed wooden flag. It has 15 holes for 15 different threads you might be using on a project... just tie them onto this instead of leaving them in a heap!
Very pretty inside a sewing case as well, this would be really neat in a framed collection of needlework tools or old needle packages and hoops, too. A pretty way to display some used bits of old thread...
Wooden Palette and Minder Sets
These are kind of cool and very different! Both by Retromantics...
Miniature Scissor Blocks
OHhhh... we have the cutest miniature scissor blocks! Made from assorted woods, these little 1-1/2 x 2 x 2-3/4 chunks feature a slanted top, complete with ruler slot. Along with that slot, notice the larger hole near the top? That holds a pair of 3-1/2 to 4-inch embroidery scissors. Then, notice the two smaller holes? They store needles. Each of them as a tiny magnet in their bottom -- just enough to make your needles *cling* so if the block get knocked over, no needles errantly spill to the floor.
Not big, not heavy, just functional and cute! The slit can hold a small pattern, or one of our rulers or paddles that double as thread organizers. If you order multiples, we'll try to mix up your woods, but try to match ruler and organizer woods to blocks. All of these are just the coolest things!
Cute Wooden Trays from Retromantic/Doodlin' Around
Here are 4 little 4 x 6-ish wooden trays that Jeannette Douglas and Shepherd's Bush have been featuring in their designs. Yes, there are specific designs for each, but LOTS OF THINGS would be cute in them!!! Jeannette uses one to perch a pin cushion inside with a little space beside it (for a baby candy bar???)
Black, red, whitewashed and brown... just a different way to finish a bit of needlework... they'd be fun perched on shelf, fun as a stitching ORT bucket, even a tray ORNAMENT on a larger Christmas Tree -- you could present something in it!! Just wanted to draw attention to these little guys as they are a nice finishing option, match them to all the different designer styles!
NOTE: the filigreed whitewash tray is simply too fragile to ship, so we have taken it out of our shopping cart. Sorry! It is still available in the shop for hand-carrying home!
Baby Tool Tray!
Wayne-The-Wood-Guy putters in his studio daily -- and comes up with the coolest little wooden trinkets sometimes! This is a miniature needle tray complete with a magnet in the bottom. 2-1/2 inches long, 1-1/2 inches wide and an inch high... it is the perfect size for a couple dozen M & M's, a few pieces of hard candy, the buttons and embellishments for your current stitching project... or those needles!
When you turn over your bitty tray... there on the bottom... is The Silver Needle's name! (cute stitch group favors, fun wrapper for bitty gifts, and a great portion-control device for those M & M's!)
Bunny Boards & Bitty Bunnies!
Does your stitching basket or sewing case need a palette to hold a current project's thread collection? This simple rabbit outline, decorated with just a few 'scribbles' of definition is immediately recognizable as a cute bunny that would look great peeking out from a sewing case pocket! 5 Inches in height, and almost 3 inches in width, there are 10 numbered holes on her to attach working threads (or the leftovers from that special project that you store inside it's finished pocket.)
The Bitty Bunnies are an exact duplication in shape, but they measure a mere 2-3/8 x 1-1/4 inches. They include a (removable) clam-shell clip so you can attach them to scissors, a zipper pull on your tote bag, keys, just anywhere. Both sizes are really cute -- the larger Board does not have any other engraving than shown. The Bitty Bunnies have our web address on them, so you have us with you wherever you go! They come in assorted woods of light, dark, medium and a pretty natural red wood.
4-Inch Wooden Ruler Thread Organizer
*Needlework soothes the soul and inspires the mind* is the advice offered on one side of these 4-inch thread organizers... while *The Silver Needle* is the other advice for good living on the other side! Measuring 1-1/2 inches x 4-1/2... your calibrated ruler includes 5 holes to loop threads for works in progress.
It slips into the slot of our miniature scissor block, so even if you have no threads looped on it, the ruler is still there... and it's stored neatly in your block. Pretty Handy!
3-Inch Hornbook Organizer
Even a smaller version of our 4-inch ruler... this is a 3-inch ruler, delivered in a hornbook-style shape. (A Paddle.) Each piece features 9 different holes to loop threads from a work in progress, and is personalized with Silver Needle's logo (which I am personally very attached to!)
Again, these fit into the slit of our Mini Scissor Block.
Round Palette Key Chain
These are the CUTEST! A clam-shell clasp is ready to attach this rounded, traditional pallette shape to your scissors, tote bag, keys, whatever! 14 Little holes to tie threads into -- if you want -- this is really cutest just as a key ring!
It does feature our Silver Needle logo on it... you may already have one -- as a freebie from a Superbowl Sale order or Camp Wannasew Favor -- but you might want another!!! They are the cutest little things! And... again, we can match all the woods to blocks and rulers!
From K's Creations, this is a cool, collapsible foot stool that's just the right size for us stitchers! Raising your feet a little off the floor can take so much stress off your lower back... you'll be amazed! Easy to fold up and tuck into your tote bag, this smoothly finished oak stool measures just 5 1/2 x 11, and 5" high. The legs fold up under it, and a fancy bolt fastens them in place, making a bundle that is only 3" thick! It takes 2 seconds to unfold... and is just the right size to tuck under your feet while you're stitching! Perfect for stitching weekends, traveling, whatever!
Wooden Snowman Mini Wooden Thread Palette|
This little guy measures approx 2-3/4 x 1-1/4 inches in size, and has 12 holes for threads. We may not always have him in stock... but we'll try! He features our logo and website in teeny letters on his tummy.
Wooden Time to Stitch Watch Wooden Thread Palette
I love this antiqued pocket watch design! 2-1/4 wide by 3-inches high, it again features 12 holes tor a few of your threads. Another treasure that comes in and out of our doors -- enchanting! Our shop logo is featured on that back of this -- very small, engraved just like the design on the front.
Webmaster's Note: We have some of these delightful wooden goodies for you on Accessories, Gifts & Gadgets, page 4 and more on our Exclusives page. Check out both pages to see them all!
Miniature Vintage Pincushion
from Sudberry House
I've been seeing this little guy for some time, and finally ordered some for the shop. What a pleasant surprise they are! Sudberry House delivers a 2-3/4 x 4 x 1-3/4 inch box (it kind of reminds us of a tiny manger) with a design area on top of 2-1/4 x 3-1/2! Almost an inch deep inside, you can finish the top -- and still have a tiny storage area underneath the pin cushion lid.
I don't know what we'll put into ours yet -- probably a small Blackbird design... doesn't matter... this is just the cutest little thing! Look around for something small to stitch, the box/tray/(manger!) comes with the padded piece to mount needlework.
Miniature Wooden Hornbooks!
Here are two small wooden cut-outs that mimic the shape of antique hornbooks, which were used in the olden days as an alternative to a textbook in school. Papers and lessons were attached to these little 'paddles', the handles tying to students belts and such, for easy transport to and from school. Stitch something small and mount onto these.
You can have the handle at the top -- makes a cute area for an ornament hanger loop. You can have the handle at the bottom... and make a tiny sampler to display on it! They'd make fun tree ornaments, they're neat tucked inside a pretty sewing case. They'd be pretty framed in a needlework-themed shadow box... basically, there are tons of things you could do with these. No specific designs call for these... just find something cute in your stash!
Tiny one measures 1 x 1. Small one's paddle area measures a mere 2-1/2 x 2-3/4, handle is another 1 inch. Larger hornbook measures 4-3/4 x 3-1/4, with a handle of 1-1/2 inches. Too darn cute!
