Antique and Reproduction Samplers... everything is offered in chart
Lucy Dunning Sampler
I have always liked this sampler... the chart by Threads of Gold has been around forever... there are no dates on our packages... but the design remains lovely as it did in 1811 when it was originally stitched by 13yr old Lucy Dunning. The border is gorgeous, and the octagonal cartouches in the center band really draw your eye. They are worked over one in half (tent) stitches.
Although the green grasses as the bottom are all Cross Stitched... you could add Satins to that if you wanted. Throw in some Sawtooth Satins around the verse, a few Algerian Eyes up in the alphabet... this is just so pretty! Stitch count is approx 290 square, so it'll be a commanding 18 x 18 on 32ct, and a delightful 14-1/2 inches on 40ct. Offered as a chart, it is coded for DMC or silks.
1724 MH Sampler
This is a most unusual piece... solidly stitched... in tons of special stitches... it's actually on lighter linen... even though it appears that it's on black!!! Measuring approx 14-1/2 x 17 on 25ct Dirty Linen (any count will do for this piece), it was charted and stitched from the antique original by Darlene O'Steen for Threads of Gold! The background of the alpahbet area and floral square are black... and that teases you into believing the whole thing is on black. Rather, it is SOLID stitching of Bargello, Algerian Eyelet, Upright Crosses, Irish, Tent, Diamond Eyelet, Rice and Queen stitches. Stunning... the light colors really show off the textures of all the stitches!!! Offered in many page chart format, it is keyed for Needlepoint Inc silks. Several of the shop gals are changing their personal colors a bit -- less of the pastels, more into jewel tones. So... you can choose your own color palette, or try those Needlepoint Silks. (These are a special order item, and may require seperate shipment)
Eliza Telfer Sampler
This lacy-looking piece is a Scottish sampler, stitched by Elizabeth telfer, and has no date. The directions go on to describe these tid-bits of information. The original shows that the date has been picked out, which happened as young girls matured! All the things you would expect in a Scottish sampler have been stitched. There are alphabets, crowns, rns, animals, birds, people and ships, plus recognition to King William an Queen Victoria, and a verse from Proverbs. While Elizabeth stitched ships, typical of Scottish Samplers, her fish are unusual additions!!! After stitching such a busy sampler, she then added initials of the family and friends which filled every available space. Stitched in bricks and rich greens and teals, this finishes approx 16 x 16-1/2 on 32ct. Offered as a chart, this is really a charming piece, with lots of balance and eye appeal!
