Welcome to our "Scissors Heaven!"
We have an entire display case full of the most wonderful Solingen Steel Cutlery from Germany, unusual novelty scissors from France, top quality embroidery scissors from Italy -- just a wonderful array! We're highlighting a few here, and will be adding more to treat you! (I kind of have this "scissor thing"...)

Featured here some styles from: Gingher, Dovo, Wasa, and some French and Italian importers. (Many have no names, per se, and since the invoices are often in German or Italian, I have no idea just what they call them! We just know that we LOVE them! So we've given all of them our own "SN numbers," to keep them straight!!!) I'll try to give you some info about each!!!

DOVO

The DOVO scissor company is the oldest scissor company in Germany. It is located in the Solingen Valley of Germany... the best cutlery producing area in the world. Scissors bearing the words: "Solingen Steel," can only come from the Solingen region... I'd LOVE to tour the factory sometime.....

This is a fabulous line of scissors. They are all great to work with, they're sturdy, sharp, pretty, and just have the most wonderful "hand" to me. Every pair you pick up to try feels better than the last one! They have a "Satisfaction Guaranteed" guarantee, but you won't be disappointed! We have several styles, so here are some of them.

Flag Scissors
More new scissors from DOVO... these are quite unique in size and decoration! A FULL 7-Inch scissor -- we've never had that size in ANYTHING before... these are a classic shear style with a 3-1/4 inch blade, smaller handles, and an American Stars and Stripes enamel finish! Flex them open to find the Dovo logo and Solingen Germany trademark... you know they're 'real!'

These are definitely a larger scissor. They open and close with a soft 'swoosh', and feel very substantial in your hands. The red on them is on the brighter side of red -- DMC 666, the navy is true. Yet another treat for the scissor collector, and any special sewing cases out there with a stars and stripes theme!!!

Dovo 6-Inch Lacquered Carbon Look
There is a pattern steel takes on when it is 'carbonized'... an extra-hardening treatment... which is recreated on this pair of scissors. Reminding me of pixels, or a houndstooth pattern, these appear to have a greyed black and silver baked-on finish of those diagonal pixels!

A very *strong* pair of scissors, these measure 6 inches in overall length, with cutting blades of 2-3/4 inches. Not as heavy-duty as a shear, there are the next best thing. Pretty, smooth, tailored, sophisticated finish, not only are these an unusual finish, they are an unusual size.

These 6 pairs are great! These quality Dovo scissors are smooth, functional, sturdy, very well balanced, and have an unbelievable feel to their cutting action. I think the brushed steel finish just makes them "swoosh" when you flex them! The blades are all substantial, without being clumsy. I just love to watch customer's reactions when I give them these to try out! (One of the only times we tolerate moaning and groaning in the shop!)

#SN17: This pair sports larger finger holes. What a blessing for larger hands! A 4" scissor with the beautiful brushed stainless finish.
#SN18: A 5" scissor... these are some of our favorites! Not the prettiest... but by far, one of the best feeling styles in your hand. (I'm sitting here flexing them... and had to remind myself to get back to work!!!).
#SN19: The 4" version of our #17... a must for your stitching bag! A great little scissor, the blade makes up half the overall length, so they give you lots of cutting power in a little scissor!.
#SN20: The same style as the #19... with the brushed gold handles, and brushed stainless blades..
#SN20A: Same style as #20... but all brushed gold! These scissors feel wonderful. The "swoosh" when you close these scissors is so smooth, I don't have words to describe it!
#SN20B: Same style as #20... but sleek black Teflon -- a soft, black matte finish. These feel so slender and graceful in your hand, those blades simply disappear to nothing at the razer-sharp tips.

4-1/2 Inch Serpentine Embroidery
These are so pretty! The same handle style as our SN28A and SN28B styles... these feature the same gold handles and stainless blades in a petite 4-1/2 inch size, rather than the 5-inch. A PERFECT little-sized scissor, these are very balanced in your hand -- the finger holes are large enough, and the handles long enough for the 1-3/4 inch blades -- to feel just great!

The famous DOVO logo is stamped into the metal as well as the pretty embossing on the blades. WE HAVE NEVER HAD A 4-1/2 INCH SCISSOR -- 2-3/4, 3-1/2, 4 and 5 inch, but NEVER a 4-1/2!!!!! *Very Nice!*

Curved Petites
Wow... are these sharp little things! 3-3/8 In overall length, these are a straight stainless steel style with curved blades that have a gold finish!!! Finger holes aren't too large, 2-1/4 inch handle length leading to TINY 1/2-inch blades that are curved and gold plated! Terrific to use for reaching tight areas, these are amazingly fine.

Again, DOVO brand stamped on the handles... I think my nail-lady uses fine scissors like these! They look pretty intense, and even COME WITH their own preemie-sized leather sheath (which is normally something like $4.00 by itself!)

Dovo Small and Large Angle-Tipped Tweezers
We discovered these as part of that Blue Tin Assortment of scissor and tweezer, and got DOVO sell us the tweezers separately!!! The small style is 3-1/2 inches long, the traditional tweezer shape with small angled tips. The larger style is actually shorter in length -- they are 3-1/4 inches, but feature a wider grip area, flatter design, and wider angles tip.

Both stamped with the official DOVO stamps and logos... what makes these so awesome are those tips. When you pinch the tweezers together... YOU CANNOT SEE THE SEAM BETWEEN the two metal tongs. They fit that cleanly, that smoothly, that precicly. These are incredible! Use them for any precise work... on either you or your needlework! Just a dream to hold!

Our favorite German Scissor Company -- Dovo -- has *re-mastered* their silicone scissor handle decorative technique, and re-introduced a past favorite of ours! Ladybug Scissors!!! A top quality stainless steel 3-1/2 inch embroidery scissor with razor-sharp blades and thin, sharp tip... these little scissors feature a 'soft-grip' red handle coated with black spots!

Cute as can be... these are serious scissors... even though they remind us of ladybugs!!! Tuck a pair inside a pretty garden-themed sewing case... or just tie a *buggy* fob on a pair! Lovely scissors!

Extra-Thin Tipped Scissors
Dovo has designed a new style of 3-1/2 inch scissor that is specifically designed for acute cutting -- such as Hardanger Embroidery. A familiar handle style we really like, notice the last centimeter of the blade... it is tapered quite a bit, so that the blade tips are very narrow... perfect for up-close cutting!

Dovo's lovely brushed stainless finish, the steel is strong and stable, and like all the rest, these 'swoosh' just like cutting butter! (What a messy idea!) Very sharp and thin tips... a lovely addition to the Dovo collection.

DOVO has sent us 18 sets of matching Extra-Thin Scissors and Tweezers! Inside the 4-1/2 x 4-1/2 x 1 blue DOVO tin, you'll find a pair of our SN19B Extra-Thin Tipped stainless scissors, a red soft-leather sheath to protect their blades, and a matching 3-3/8 inch brushed stainless steel tweezer. *Sharp and Precise* I cannot even see the line where the two tweezer tips meet -- it's that smooth!

DOVO of Solingen, Germany, has mastered their regular left-handed embroidery scissors into a slightly curved style, which is AWESOME to use! The slight curve to the blades gives your hand the room to get really close to the cutting area without your hand crushing, brushing, bumping, and smashing which you've already stitched on your fabric!

Just like cutting through hand-rolled butter... these are SUCH a delight to hold and flex! DOVO's brushed stainless finish, super-tapered hot-forged tips, the finger holes are generous, the finish is smooth, and the points and blades razor-sharp. Luscious!!!

Graffiti Scissors
DOVO has sent us some new scissors -- Carbon Steel -- 5-inch embroidery style, that are the cutest things! (We had purchased the first and only 11 of these that they had made as prototypes, and featured them in our last e-mail newsletter. Promising an introduction into the permanent line... we're so excited that they came to us so quickly!!!) WONDERFUL cutting action, these are a 5-inch style that feature a white enameled finish decorated with child-like graffiti decoration! I said, in my initial e-letter, that they were TOO good to give to a child, but that any teacher or scissor collector would LOVE them!

Dovo is now embossing the metal blades with their logo, and Solingen 'license' logo -- which is a very nice, elegant touch! Very nice, very fun... I keep asking the difference between forged (those first 11) and carbon steel, and they keep telling me... only it never is anywhere in my head, when I need to find it! (know what I mean!?)

True Left-handed Embroidery Scissors
For the first time the Dovo Scissor manufacturers of Solingen, Germany, have produced a 3-1/2 inch embroidery scissor that is REALLY left-handed!!! Their lovely, butter-smooth brushed stainless finish makes these 1-inch blades swoosh so smoothly... makes you want to try to cut everything in sight! A nice, lightweight feel, the blades are thin and sharp. Comparing to the Gingher SN3, these blades are about 1/2 the thickness!!!

True left-handed scissors ARE different than right-handed. The 'top blade' comes down on the left side. Right-handed scissors' top blade comes down on the right. You really don't notice the difference in looking at them... but when you try to cut with them, something is *just different!* (Kind of like the water going down the drain swirling in the other direction -- south of the equator!) Truly a wonderful thing for us lefty-cutters... the Dovo sample at Market was presented with a painted finish... but I asked them to make mine in the classic, brushed finish that is everyone's favorite. (And they DID that for me!!!)

Rose Gold Scissors
A totally new scissor style and finish arrived direct from Germany today... Dovo has outdone themselves with this lovely, delicate new design and metal treatment!

Besides the ultra-thin, slim, and trim feel of these... we are treated to Rose Gold handles! A gold with a hint of pink... each scissor looks to be antique... only it's brand new! The Rose Gold color has just the faintest hint of an antiqued patina... so very soft, gentle and lovely! We have NOTHING else like these in shape and coloring... so they are extra special to all you scissor collectors! They cut like a dream... and will be stunning inside special sewing cases or tucked between your samplers!

Preemies! Oh my gosh... this is the most delightfully petite little pair of scissors! A 'smidge' narrower than our regular Preemies, and a 'scunch' longer, (smidges and scunches are approx 1/8 of an inch in some cases... like scissors. 1/4 of an inch when you hang pictures, a foot when you're parking a car...)

Awesome balance... the finger holes are petite... the overall scissor measures only 2-7/8 inches long. The part between the finger holes to the screw that holds the blades together is longer than our other Preemie style, so they seem to cut like 'the big guns!' (I think that gives them more leverage so they feel more substantial.) Anyway, a truly lovely little pair of scissors -- again -- a totally new style and size -- it's a must if you're a scissor-lover!

Mini Solingen Sewing Scissors
Dovo's 100th Anniversary is being celebrated with this cute little pair of miniature sewing scissors!!! Measuring 3-1/2 inches, they are Carbon Steel -- Dovo's top Solingen quality -- and feature gold handles.

Look at the finger holes... the longer one lets you rest another finger on it, so you have more stability when cutting. The bottom blade is the thinner one, the top blade has a slightly curved tip, and boy, these feel really good to flex and cut!

Lightweight, very well balanced, we usually see this scissor shape in a 5 or 6-inch size, so this petite 3-1/2 inches is just the cutest, and totally new!!!

Airline-Approved DOVO Round-tip Scissors
This is a delightful little pair of stainless scissors, with DOVO's classic 'Feather' design on the handles. What makes them special is the rounded tip -- so the airlines will be happy! Finally, a top-quality cutting instrument that you don't have to mail back to yourself, or watch being tossed in the trash! Same tight, sharp, precision cutting action as the rest of the super-sharp DOVO styles we have, these are a 3-1/4-inch size (just a teeny bit smaller than most)... and feel great! (They even have the words 'Free on Board' etched onto the blades, so you can show the security people!!!)

Chunky Applique Scissors by DOVO

We have these little guys in a brushed stainless steel finish, but now they are offered with a black Teflon finish... so we had to get them, as well! VERY heavy-duty, these are recommended for applique and seam trimming. Measuring 3-1/2 inches overall, the finger holes are on the larger side, and the blades are only 1/2 an inch long.

Super heavy-duty, they are actually very thin at the tips, very sharp, and slightly curved, so you can really reach into your 'preferred area.' Strange looking, fun and funky, I can feel a slight serration on the blades -- which helps keep the threads and fabrics IN PLACE (and not sliding along the blades) when you cut with them. Really Nice!

DOVO Extra-Heavy-Duty Stainless Cutters

Wow... these are an unusual shape piece... extra-large finger holes, wide, sturdy blades, with a slight curve to them... these feel very substantial in your hand, and cut like a dream! Measuring the standard 3-1/2 inches in length, the brushed stainless finish feels so smooth, like pewter, and makes a silent 'swish' sound when you work them. Very unusual and serious scissors!!!!

Bumble Bee Scissors
We were treated to a sampling of these cute scissors last year... kind of test from DOVO, I think... but now have two sizes of yellow and black dipped scissors that remind you of a bumble bee!!! Offered in two of Dovo's favored styles, the smaller one is only 3-1/2 inches long, and is the same as the SN8, 9 and 10s. The longer is just like the SN19 and 20s, and measures 5 inches. Featuring brushed stainless blades that look like pewter, the handles speak for themselves! Dovo offers excellent quality in its cutlery, and that hasn't changed, just because these are a lighthearted addition to the line. They feel good, and cut like a dream!

The handle style was designed for the company's 110th anniversary -- 1882-1992 -- and are dated as such! Each pair comes with that beautiful leather case, as well! A companion scissor to our SN13-a.

SN-28A
Breathtakingly beautiful, these are a real treat to hold! Five-inch scissors, they feature an intricate filagree design in their handles that is finished in an antiqued golden-silver patina. The blades are the blued-steel as in our SN13-a and SN13-b scissors. They feel wonderful in your hand, just like slicing through butter! These DOVOs are an absolute must for your scissor collection, so unique! The leather case is included with these!

SN28B
Lovely 5-inch gold-handled scissors from DOVO in Solingen, Germany... these are a larger version of some 3-1/2 inch embroidery scissors we carry. Stamped with the Solingen and DOVO logos... there is also a lovely black-engraved Solingen inscription on the blades. I cleaned the scissor case last Saturday... found two boxes of these, that had been mis-marked, and pushed way to the back of the case... behind the empty boxes! They are surprisingly substantial, feel great, cut like butter... and are exceptionally unique because of the handles, overall 5-inch size, and pretty inscription! A Found Treasure!!!

Classic Designs:
Dovo Stork and Chanticleer

These Stork Styles have been around forever! Just a fun shape to have... or a memory from your Grandmother's sewing box, they are distinctive. The Storks have a very thin, short cutting blade, suitable for delicate cutting.

The stork styles all feature a silver finished bird wing, with the rest of the scissor all gold.

SN-11 is a 3 1/2" style;
SN-11A is 4" in total length; and SN-11B measures a full 6 1/2" in total length!

More Pretty DOVO Styles:
These 8 pairs are all top quality! None of them have names... we just refer to them as "that one... and that one!" The middle two have blued-steel blades! A beautiful, rich, transparent color -- actually in the metal itself -- it's created during the forging process. Notice that SN14B has silver-colored handles. It's the stainless steel, before the gold plating is added.

The other 6 featured here have the gold plated handles, with steel blades, or are all stainless. They are all wonderful scissors you'll enjoy for years! All are 3 1/2 inches.

Dovo Crystal Nail Files
A 'bonus' from my German scissor manufacturer, DOVO, this is a 3-1/4 inch long glass nail file, that is absolutely wonderful to use! Because it's crystal, the file side will never dull. The grind is very fine... but really does a nice job. Just a perfect size for your purse or stitching bag, or even needlecase... these are functional and elegant! (My manicurist is from Germany, and she buys these from me each year at Christmas to give to the rest of her favorite clients! How's that for a testimonial?)

These are absolutely top quality German Solingen Steel scissors manufactured by Gingher. Gingher has a lifetime warranty on their products, covering the steel quality and design. They have a reconditioning service available in the US, approx $6.95, to recondition any of their scissors, if needed. It includes sharpening, tightening and lubrication... and I think that's a great bonus for the product! Don't forget! We also have wonderful Gingher Limited Edition Shears!
SN22 Gingher Lion's Tail Embroidery 3-1/2 inch in overall length, gold plated handles, 1-1/8 inch long stainless blades, sharp points, these come with a Gingher embossed leather sheath. GREAT little scissors, especially for the price!
SN12 Gingher Stork Embroidery Stork scissors were my first really good pair of needlework scissors -- my Mom gave them to me when I was 10. Gingher offers a really nice 3-1./2 inch stork style. Not too terribly sharp at the point, all gold plated on the bird part (as opposed to some of the higher end styles that feature the stainless wing coloring), 1-inch blades. These come with the Gingher embossed leather sheath for protection. Very affordable!
The Buckingham A delicate little 3 1/2" scissor... the lightest weight we have... these are truly breathtaking! Such a pretty presentation! They cut beautifully, but are not for heavy weight threads or fabrics! These are a favorite for fancy needle cases and shadow box arrangements.
Lovely 3-1/2 inch embroidery scissors, all are made in the Solingen Region of Germany... and area world-renown for top quality cutlery. All feature stainless steel cutting blades, and gold plating... just lovely! Excellent cutting action, smooth blades, with nice, sharp tips!
#SN33C: Chrome Etui Scissors We've always carried these little guys in gold, but now have received a stainless steel shipment! Measuring a mere 2-1/4 inches... the blades are only 1/2 and inch long! Very sharp, generous finger holes. SN-30A: Gold Metallic Thread Scissors These are an all-gold finished scissor, measuring 3 1/2" in length, with a larger finger hole, and nice, sharp point. They are designed for cutting metallic threads, because they feature one mini-serrated blade, which should be on the bottom as you cut. The blade will hold the metallic thread steady, while the top blade chops it off. Regular scissors have 2 smooth cutting blades that allow metallics to 'slip' over them during the cutting process. Eventually, those blades will grow dull. With this mini-serrated design, the metallic thread is held in place, and won't slide during the cutting. These special scissors will help reduce the wear and tear on all of your others!!! They'll look great with a pretty beaded scissor tassel attached, too!

Leather Scissor Sheaths Thin, soft leather... the larger double sheaths hold two pair of scissors together! Measuring approx 4 inches long, they will hold scissors that are larger than the regular 3-1/2 embroidery size. Small, simple and functional! Also featured are the new tiny size, and the regular. 7-1/2 Inch Leather Scissor Sheath Quite the generous piece of leather... this sheath is serious! It measures 7-1/2 inches long and 2-1/2 inches at the wide opening. It is designed to protect your 6, 7 and 8-inch scissors and shears. Embossed with a tiny DOVO logo, they are a dark, dark navy... but look black to me. Keep them away from your doggie who likes to chew -- mine smells heavenly -- fresh, soft leather!!! (and I'd have a snack if I were your puppy!!!) Wonderful protection for your larger scissors.
