Who's in the Pumpkin Patch? Priscilla's Pocket has a sweet design that is worked over one thread on 40ct linen, and then attached to one of her hand-made wooden paddles. Available as the pattern and paddles separately, you can stitch the kitty and pumpkin design and mount it on a darker wooden piece, or change up the border color if your paddle is a different color. They recommend drilling your wood to actually sew on the piece with buttons at the four corners... but our shortcut is a bit of glue -- I'm much less dangerous with a drop of glue than a drill!!!!! Who's in the Pumpkin Patch is offered as a chart and finishes approx 3 x 3. I purchased 3 x 5-1/2 paddles in a distressed mangy black/old brick color, creme with natural distessing, and brick red with touches of grey distress -- because kitty looked good on any of the three of them!
Presenting The Lucet We fell in love with this wooden Thingie-Dingy at Market -- called a Lucet. Pricilla's Pocket has made a beautiful little wooden tool -- a Lucet -- that you hold in your hand, and turn to create a Square four-sided knotted cord to finish the edges of your pin cushions and fobs. An alternative trimming treatment to twisted cord, rik rak, chenille... anything... you can make your Lucet Cord trim out of any number of types or weights of thread. So... your project has matching trim! You can add beads if you want, as well. The girls were sitting there looping and turning this thing... and I was enchanted with the rhythm of it. Obviously, when you figure out what you're doing (this does happen after a few minutes of confusion and ensuing practice!) you can sit mindlessly in front of the TV... or in a car... or in a waiting room somewhere... and make your cording! This wonderfully smooth and comforting little Lucet comes with step-by-step pictures and instructions to make the cord. The Needle Cushion in the pic features this trim around the edge -- you can either attach it straight, or twist it a bit -- whatever!

Next, choose the matching wool to your thread (you could use Herringbone on the front like this one and mix Houndstooth on the back for instance), and the matching #5 Perle Cotton to make your Lucet Cord. Grab your little wooden tool, and gather some ground walnut shells for stuffing... and you'll have a charming pin cushion that features a wool band on the front to actually HOLD your needles, instead of letting them slip into oblivion inside the cushion!

Hornbook Frames Oh wow... we have 4 awesome primitive hornbook frames and one tiny individual hornbook thread palette by Priscilla's Pocket. Paddle Shapes if you will, all are patterned after antique hornbooks -- the wooden paddle predicescors to text books in Colonial American Education. Lessons were attached to the wooden hornbooks -- kind of like a reading book. Priscilla's Pocket has made 4 sizes of black and raisin distressed frames that are slightly irregular in shape, and totally on the mark as far as authenticity. Black matte painted finish with hints of raisin peeking through... the painted finish is individually hand-done and bumpy and the edges of the frames are slightly rounded and irregular. (Your framer will have to contour his boards a bit... and you'll hear about it...) I have only one design that specifically fits one of these -- Chessie & Me's All Hallows Eve for the Maryland size. I bought the rest of them because they are simply really COOL, and beautifully done. So awesome, in fact, that we'll FIND things to put into them. Probably the cart before the horse... but definitely one of those shopping circumstances that when it fits, you buy it in every color! Mini Hornbook opening is approx 2-1/2 x 3-1/2. Maryland Hornbook's opening measures 3-1/4 x 7-1/4. New Jersey Hornbook's opening measures approx 4-1/2 x 7. Pennsylvania measures approx 6-1/2 x 7-1/2. Priscilla is from Arizona... WHY are these named after states on the east coast??? Could have been fun to name the long, skinny one after California! OR... turn it on its side and name it OKLAHOMA! Pick the square-ish one and name it Colorado! Just having fun with that! Charming frames OOOZZZING with personality! Pricey, but remember that each is hand-finished.
Mini Thread Organizing Paddle Hornbooks These are the CUTEST! Featured on Needlemade's Black Cat and Priscilla's Pocket's From Every Mountainside designs... this small paddle doubles as your frame and thread organizer. Measuring only 3 x 6 overall... it features 4 holes for threads... and a charming chunky design statement. Each is hand-made, and available in various woods... our selection varies in color. LOTS of personality with these, find anything small to mount. Simply cut a board, wrap needlework around it, trim with a bit of cord if you wish, and you're finished. Just an ENDEARING little wood piece!
From Every Mountainside from Priscilla's Pocket Here's another endearing Patriotic design we just had to have! By Priscilla's Pocket, stitch the little girl waving her flag over one on 40ct. (sorry about that...!) She is worked in Crescent Colour's Belle Soie Silks -- 8 different colors in this! She measures a mite 1-1/2 x 2-3/4. Then, mount her onto this cool, handmade wooden hornbook thread palette. It measures only 4 x 4 with a two-nch handle. Really pretty... who wouldn't love to have this??? Offered as the chart, with horn book separately... in case you want to stitch it on something larger and finish it a different way.
Black Cat Hornbook from Needlemade Designs Oh... these are CUTE!!!! Be Needlemade Designs, choose your favorite kitty-color and stitch him on almost any count of linen, to finish onto one of Priscilla's Pockets hand-made chunky hornbooks! Stitch a black cat or a Siamese, and trim with a border of Nun's Stitch. Offered as a leaflet, there is history of the Nun Stitch included, as well as advice about loving your kitty. Designer, Linda, warns that these are easy enough to stitch and give away as gifts... and the easiest way of finding new homes for your cats!!!
