Kesiah Campbell 1796 Sampler
A neat sampler... especially when you know what the verse really means!!!! Tucked above the charming farmhouse and yard scene, the Gaelic words translate to *driving the ewes to the hills, where the heather grows... and to the small stream! By Needlemade Designs, you could stitch JUST the bottom part -- leaving off the alphabets and initials -- you CAN change the biblical name Kesiah to your own!
Adjust the border length... but do keep the little sheep stitched with French Knots! The entire green lawn is stitched with Satins - but they are displaced in semi rows, so there is a lovely texture to all that green, which makes this all the more charming! (Can you tell, I'm not personally crazy about the dominant alphabet up there? It's OK to think outside the 'chart' a little!) Entire sampler finishes approx 9 x 11 on 32ct.
Charted for DMC or Gentle Art Sampler Threads -- gorgeous colors of Cast Iron Skillet, Country Redwood, Endive, Garden Gate, Grape Arbor, Red Plum, Moss, Oatmeal, Picnic Basket, and Woodrose.
A & E and an Apple Pynpillow Kit
Here's a small kit I was saving to put up until Needlework Press's ABC Spool Kits finally arrived -- they look good together -- but I lost it in my little basket of *things-in-waiting!* Adam and Eve are stitched on 28ct natural linen with just Gentle Art's Cranberry hand-dyed floss. They measure about 4 x 6 when finished.
What makes this so fun, however, is the finishing. The bottom panel of the front, and the entire back is a cut of natural linen that has cranberry-red lines woven every half-inch through-out. The kit includes both linens, the chart, floss and the cut of matching silk ribbon you see in the pic. Just super-simple, this really caught my eye, and I LOVE that unique fabric!
Cat and Mouse Game
Needlemade Designs has some new releases -- this kitty cushion is one of them. Linda stitched her cat over one on 28ct linen. Look at the coloring -- she stitched the DMC black stripes first, THEN came along afterwards with Gentle Art's Garden Gate floss, and stitched the body contouring to the stripes. So... the kitty LOOKS like a kitty! Then, she finished him into one of Sudberry House's Vintage Pin Cushion forms. The cushion top lifts out from the base -- offering a tiny storage area.
So, Linda made the whole thing look like a cat bed. She took Week's wool, cradled it around the cushion form, and rolled the edges to look like a little bed. Every cat loves a mouse, and she added that too, over one, and made it a scissor fob. A really cute set of designs, and a clever finishing technique, this is offered as a chart with stitching hints for the contour work, and finishing.
A pretty mono-chromatic design, finished off with a ruched ribbon edge treatment, it is worked on 28ct linen to fit Sudberry House's Vintage Pin Cushion. Lots of color combinations would be pretty for this -- the pic shows Chocolate Raspberry.
Offered as a chart.
Spottie Dog and Stryped Cat|
A pair of cat and dog designs, each is bits of Crescent Colour's Belle Soie Silk. To get them to fit in the cool Priscilla's Pocket small hornbook frames -- you'll need to be brave and work these on 40ct linen.
Linda added a little ditty on each of these charts -- fun memories of her dogs growing up, and a tidbit about the history of domesticated cats! Fun little charts.
Home of the Free Sewing Set
This is a STUNNING set of designs! By Needlemade Designs, it features a box-top design, tiny pin mattress, and even tinier scissor fob! Proceeds from the sales of this chart are being donated to the Wounded Warrior Project -- Designer Linda Vinson offers insight about that on the back of her chart. She has designed this amazing Home of the Free waving flag piece to be framed or grace the top of a small box. Worked on 28ct linen over one thread with Crescent Colours' Belle Soie Silks of Tulip, Blue Lagoon, Oatmeal Scone, Chocolat and Scarecrow, the main design measures approx 100 x 60 stitches. (The painted box in the pic is from JoAnn's. It includes 6 little round boxes inside that Linda has made into firecracker boxes!!! There is a white resin pre-made box shown on the back cover -- as an alternative to finishing your own.)
Next, is the tiny mattress -- it features E Pluribus Unum on one side, and the American Eagle on the other -- all in 35 x 40 stitches. Finally, the EXQUISITE little fob rounds out the set -- it is 20 x 20 stitches -- so approx 2/3 of an inch in size! Absolutely enchanting! Color pics are included in the directions for mattress assembly, including that rouched ribbon edging, making the interior firecracker boxes, and even painting the 4 x 5 paper mache' box from the craft chain store.
Next -- notice the 3-1/2 inch Stars and Stripes Scissors????? They are available separately, so you'll want those, too! We're bringing this model to St Charles and Houston for our Fall 2011 Shows!!!
Black Cat Hornbook
Oh... these are CUTE!!!! Be Needlemade Designs, choose your favorite kitty-color and stitch him on almost any count of linen, to finish onto one of Priscilla's Pockets hand-made chunky hornbooks! Stitch a black cat or a Siamese, and trim with a border of Nun's Stitch.
Offered as a leaflet, there is history of the Nun Stitch included, as well as advice about loving your kitty. Designer, Linda, warns that these are easy enough to stitch and give away as gifts... and the easiest way of finding new homes for your cats!!!
